NCPG presents damning picture on US iGaming player protection

In the review, the Council found that four of the seven states where iGaming is legal have not met the NCPG’s minimum responsible gambling standards.

In Michigan, Delaware, West Virginia and Nevada, the states do not mandate operators to give players anywhere near sufficient responsible gambling protections. Meanwhile, regulations in New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania met the vast majority of the targets set forward by the charity – though, even in those states, the NCPG found that each failed to meet the outlined standards in full.

As only seven states have legal iGaming in the US, it is perhaps a shock to see the NCPG’s report find that four are failing customers at nearly every turn in responsible gambling and that the other three,Casino games while better, have problems, too.

The NCPG set out its list of Responsible Gambling Standards eleven years ago to initially help the discussion surrounding internet gambling – updating the list every year to reflect the changing face of iGaming and online betting in the US.

In other recent news, the NCPG also released further research that revealed the earlier the participation or exposure to gambling in childhood, the more likely a person is to develop a gambling problem later in life.

Keith Whyte, NCPG Executive Director, said: “Youth gambling has emerged as a significant and growing public health issue.

“We are thrilled to have such support from the lottery community, as well as the non-lottery participants, for the 2022 Gift Responsibly Campaign as we work to minimise gambling-related harm.”
